Rotational motion about a fixed axis



1. Angular quantities and kinematic equations for uniformly accelerated rotational motion

Until now, we have been focused on translational (linear) motion. In this lecture, we will deal with rotational motion. We keep the focus of our topic to the rotational motion of a rigid body about a fixed rotation axes. By a rigid body we mean a body with a defined shape that doesn't change during the study.


The full motion of a rigid body can be analyzed as the linear motion of its center of mass plus rotational motion about its center of mass. In first series of practice problems, we will focus on a set of cases that only are under rotational motion (no linear motion).
